On September 21, 2022, Stephen Jay Banner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away at the age of seventy-nine. Stephen (Steve) was born on April 22, 1943 in Bronx, New York to Rebecca and Joseph Banner. Steve graduated from New York University (NYU) with a degree in Economics. Earlier in his career, Steve worked as a banker. After that, and for most of his professional life, Steve worked as a Commercial Real Estate Broker. Steve met his wife, Linda, on a blind date set up by his grandmother. Linda was a social worker at the Hebrew Home for the Aged where Steve’s grandmother lived. Five months after that blind date, they were married. Steve and Linda moved to Eastchester, New York, where they settled down and raised their family. They were together 52 years and they never left each other’s side.
Steve was a family man and a loyal friend. There was nothing more important to him than his family. He would do anything for those he loved, and even for those he barely knew. Among his friends were the gardener, the UPS guy, and his banker. He loved Chinese food (especially on Christmas) and going to diners. He also loved movies, family gatherings, dogs, cars, and he was an avid collector of hats, shoes, and G-Shock watches. He had a great sense of humor and he was a caring man. Steve is survived by his wife Linda, his children, Alan and Alyssa, his daughter-in-law Kelly, his three grandchildren Brooke, Charlie, and James, and his niece and nephew Karen and David. Steve will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
A Graveside Service for Stephen will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 11:00AM at the Sharon Gardens Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595. Family, Relatives and Friends should meet at the Cemetery Office by 10:30AM.
