Paula was a talented and popular wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a successful former businesswoman. In the 1970s, she was named Assistant Vice President of First American Title Insurance company, one of two executive title insurance company positions she held (she broke sales records when at U.S. Title). In addition, she worked successfully in management positions for real estate companies, leasing apartment buildings in White Plains, NY, and later found success in retail sales for Saks Fifth Avenue.
Her exuberant personality, fashion and design sense, and ability to tell an entertaining story for most any occasion, served her well in business and beyond. At a time when most women had to choose between career and family, Paula proved that she could have both. She was an avid reader, kept up with the latest in current events, and had a wide circle of friends with whom she would share jokes. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. She took great pride in her appearance (with weekly shopping trips along with beauty parlor visits) and always strove to achieve firsts in areas where women were often overlooked or unappreciated. She spoke French and some Yiddish, played golf, bridge, canasta, mah jongg, and loved to travel. She attended numerous cultural events, from Broadway shows to museum exhibitions, and also enjoyed watching sports. She had a special gift for bringing people together, and often made sociable matches that resulted in marriages.
Her own first marriage, to Harold Glauber, produced two children. Now those children are married with their own children and grandchildren. Barbara and Harry Katz have two daughters, Emily and Michelle, while Gary Glauber and Deborah Cerar have two sons, Zane and Graham. Her second marriage was to Metropolitan Package Store Association Executive Director Ralph Levine. They were members of the Elmwood Country Club for many years.
In recent years, after suffering a stroke, Paula has been living at The Kensington, where she had returned to a love of painting, and enjoyed taking part in many of the social activities and seminars offered. Donations to honor Paula’s life should be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, one of her favorite charities.
Graveside Services for Paula will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024 10:30 AM at the Sharon Gardens Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595. For any additional information, please contact the Riverside Memorial Chapel at 914-664-6800.
