Betty Hamerman, age 96, passed away peacefully January 9, 2022. She was born June 12, 1925 in London, England to Louis and Anne Natkiel and was a longtime resident of White Plains, NY. She and her family lived through the London bombing of WWII and during the war she met her first husband, Alfred Barish. They were married in 1945 and she immigrated to the US, under the War Brides Act, in 1946. Alfred preceded her in death in 1967. In 1973 she married Norman Hamerman, who preceded her in death in 2006.
Betty was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was always fashionable and shared her penchant for fashion through her dress boutique in Ardsley and working at Saks White Plains Better Dresses Salon. She was a life-long tennis player who also enjoyed watching tennis and golf. She loved to travel with Norman, especially back to her native London to visit with family, and winters in Florida. A kind and generous person, she was fun loving, always quick to smile and loved spending holidays and time with family and friends.
In the final years of her life, she was provided tender loving care by her caregivers Carole and Janet and her longtime friend, Veronica, for which her family is grateful.
Betty is survived by her sons and their wives, David and Susan Barish and Jeffrey and Joanne Barish; her granddaughters and their husbands Amy (Barish) and Matt Kelly and Jennifer (Barish) and Kyle Robinson and three great grandchildren, Avery Kelly, Gavin Kelly, and Quin Marie Robinson. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Eric Hamerman, Fran Baker and Warren Hamerman as well as her stepgrandchildren, Samantha Hamerman, Robert Hamerman, Kelly Baker, Alex Baker, Martha Hamerman and Edwin Hamerman.
A private graveside memorial will be held for the family. In honor of Betty's love for animals, especially her standard poodle "Papillon", the family requests donations be made in her memory to the ASPCA or an animal rescue organization of your choosing, in lieu of flowers.
