While growing up, Wanda attend Catholic school in Aguadilla. She attended University in Puerto Rico to obtain her degree. Her love of numbers led her to a career in banking where she thrived. She was a longtime member of Christ the King. She taught Pre-Cana classes, PSR and was involved in RCIA Catholic Women. Wanda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother...aka Yaya.
Wanda met Ricardo Rivera on November of 1971 at the NCO club on Ramey AFB. Wanda was not intended to be Ricardo’s date but it did not matter to Ricardo. It was the beginning of a lifetime of adventures and love.
Wanda Almeyda married Ricardo Rivera on May 13, 1972 on a sunny day in Puerto Rico. She instantly became a military wife who supported her husband endlessly. She assisted him through multiple moves and deployments. There were assignments to Zaragoza AFB, Spain; Bentwaters AFB, England; Anderson AFB, Guam; Fort Benning, Georgia; Keesler AFB (Hurricane Hunters), Mississippi and finally Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Then eventually supporting him through his calling of becoming a deacon. She was a devoted wife to Ricardo and proud mother of Segalit and Haguit. Her love and support has allowed her family to thrive and succeed in their endeavors. Her support and love will be missed by many.
Wanda loved a good laugh and her laugh was infectious causing others to join in also. She was a hugger, she would envelop you in her arms and hold you as if she would never let go. She was one of those mothers who was always there for her daughters, Segalit and Haguit. Eventually, this love and encouragement was passed on to her granddaughter, Shabella. She loved to dance, crochet blankets, travel, sing and of course she loved her beloved Puerto Rico.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ricardo Rivera; daughters, Haguit M. Rivera and Segalit Rivera-Murray; son–in-law, James R. Murray IV; granddaughter, Shabella M. Legarda; and aunt, Rosa Cohen.
Wanda bravely fought breast and lung cancer to have more time with her family. We thank her for her valiant effort and mourn our loss. Hueles a Gloria, Mami.
Services will be held beginning with Wake at 9:00 am, Rosary at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Bossier City with Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
