Celebration of a life well lived will commence at 2:00, Sunday November 7, 2010 at Hill Crest Funeral Home for Steven Carter Powell. The Reverend Monsignor J. Carson LaCaze, Parochial Vicar for St John Berchman’s Cathedral will officiate. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest from 5 until 8, Saturday November 6.
Steve won his courageous battle with cancer November 3, 2010 surrounded by his wife of 41 years, children and grandchildren. Steve was a graduate of Tulane University and a businessman most recently owning A Man Around the House with his son Mark. He was a proud retired Air Force Reservist, Commander of Flight Services for the 917th with 37 years of service. A consummate family man who treasured all time and travels with those he loved and joyously told the tales of his adventures. Steve enjoyed traveling, shopping for “good buys”, political debate, jubilant family meals, jokes and laughter but most importantly the blessed time with his grandsons, Carter and Carson.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Halbert Allen Powell.
He is survived by the love of his life, Susan Kisner Powell. Daddie to Dawn Powell Ward and husband Ken of Benton as well as Mark Halbert Powell and girlfriend Jacquie Cocus of Bossier City. Paw Paw to Carter Ellis and Carson Ezra Ward of Benton. His devoted mother, Evelyn Albert Powell of Ponchatoula and loving siblings, Rhonda Blum and husband David of Ponchatoula and Randy Powell and wife Susie of Madisonville also survive him. He leaves nieces and nephews Greg, Jeff and Valerie Blum, Amanda Powell Breaux and Madeline Powell. In addition, he will be missed by his constant snack companion, Macie.
Dearest friends and family will honor Steve as Pallbearers: Randy Powell, David Blum, Sam Gilliam, Charles Culpepper, Curtis Monson, Jr and Macc Neimann.
The family wishes to extend a debt of gratitude to Steve’s friend, supporter and physician, Dr Robert Massingill as well as his staff Diantha and Cheryl, Dr Roscoe Chan, Deanna Kamphius, NP, Dr Corky Davis, Schumpert Hospice and Cancer Treatment Center whose care and devotion was unparalleled.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, The Cathedral of Saint John Berchman’s or to the donor’s choice.
