BENTON, LA – Services for Mrs. Jonel Weathersby Rumby, 73, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2015, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kendall Holley. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive guests Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jonel was born in Smackover, AR and raised in Magnolia. She and her family moved to Bossier City in 1955. Jonel was a 1959 graduate of Bossier High School and proud member of the Bearkat Band where she played the saxophone and was on the girls’ basketball team.
Jonel met the love of her life, Bob, while working at the Ordinance Plant in Minden, LA and they married on January 18, 1964. Later, Jonel worked as an engineering secretary for Western Electric. Her proudest job, however, was raising her family and driving the Calvary Baptist Academy school van. Jonel touched many lives and had a generous heart for all she met.
Jonel was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Margaret Weathersby; and grandson, Jonathan Rumby. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bob Rumby; sons, Ryan Rumby and wife Tina of Phoenix, AZ and Greg Rumby and wife Sherry of Minden, LA; daughters, Robin Nichols and husband Terry of Benton, LA and Sheila Wood and husband Chuck of North Carolina; brother, Edward Weathersby of Benton, LA; grandchildren, Trey Nichols of Benton, LA, Zachary Rumby of Phoenix, AZ, Genny Rumby of Minden, LA, Kadie Rumby of Shreveport, LA, Amy Crayton of Wilson, NC, and Morgan Wood of Raleigh, NC; aunt, Margie Orr of Shreveport, LA; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Honoring Jonel as pallbearers are Greg Rumby, Carter Hasty, Robby Johnson, Joel Weathersby, Brian Teutsch, and Mark Garner. Honorary pallbearers are Gwen Garner, Sue Brossett, Marie Fogelman, and Jean Artz.
The family would like to thank Heritage Manor Stratmore, their Alzheimer’s Care Unit staff, the 500 wing nursing staff, and Life Path Hospice for all of their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association-Shreveport Chapter.
