Janis Castine

Janis Elizabeth Keel Castine, age 78, passed away at her home on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Janis was born on May 24, 1946 and was a lifetime resident of Bossier City, La. After graduating from Bossier High School, where she was a 4-year member of the Bossier High School band, in 1964, she attended Baptist Christian College receiving her B.A. She then proudly attended Northwestern State University receiving her Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision. After graduating, she taught at Curtis Elementary School for several years. She took a break from teaching to help with the family business, Castine & Associates, until the passing of her beloved husband, Steve Castine, in 1998. She then returned to the classroom at Curtis Elementary until her retirement in 2012. After retiring, she worked for many years as a Notary Public at the UPS store in Bossier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Joel Castine, parents, Ralph and Agnes Keel, sister, Nita Keel Walpole Weathersby, and nephew, Zachary Scott Funderburk. She is survived by her nieces, Vicki Walpole Lugo, Lisa Walpole Henderson (husband, Jon), and Ashlie Walpole Kyle (husband, Robert), nephews, Kevin Walpole (wife, Amy) and Joel Weathersby, cousins Raymond and Sheila Shewmake and Jeanette Steiner, her best friend of many years, Emily West, caregiver Quin Smith and many cousins. Her vibrant personality, quick wit, and generous nature will be greatly missed.

A graveside service for Janis will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 2:00 PM at Hill Crest Cemetery, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, La.
