Services for Gordon P. Guenther, USAF Retired, will be held Mon., Dec. 13, 2004, 11:00 a.m., St. John's Episcopal Church, 1107 Broadway, Minden, LA, 71055, with Rev. Wayne E. Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery Hwy. 80 E., Haughton, LA with full military honors. Visitation will be Sun., Dec. 12, 2004, 4 - 7 p.m., Hill Crest Funeral Home, Haughton.
Major Guenther was born July 11, 1934, in LaCrosse, WI, and passed away Fri., Dec. 10, 2004, WK Pierremont Hospital, Shreveport, LA after a lengthy illness. He was the oldest child of Paul F. and Mary Frances Glissendorf Guenther of Hokah, MN. He and his wife were residents of the Bossier City area since 1972.
Following his AF career he worked as a professional mechanical engineer in industry, and was an instructor for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He was very active in his church and family life. He is survived by his wife, Carole; his three daughters: Beth Hamm & husband Nathan of Shreveport, Lisa Moore & husband Tommy of Henderson, TX, and Karen Arbuckle & husband Don of Alexandria, LA; his brothers: Tom Guenther & wife Nancy of Peyton, CO, and John Guenther & wife Claudia of Cohasset, MN; his sister Gretchen Guenther Combs & husband Clay of Greenville, TX; his grandchildren: Matthew & Mary Catherine Hamm, Janson & Madison Moore, and Kyla & Alyssa Arbuckle; a special Aunt Lois G. Davy of Brownsville, MN; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Dies, Dr. Paul Schuler, Dr. Will Maranto, & Dr. Arnold Barz, and the staffs of WK Bossier, WK Pierremont, and Promise Specialty Hospital for their loving care during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Gordon's name to St. John's Episcopal Church.
