He was born in Chicago, IL to the parents of Paul and Edna Heppert in 1943. He enlisted into the United States Air Force directly from high school and served till his retirement in 1983. After his military retirement, he worked for the Libby Glass Co for 20 years. He married Doris Richardson of Austin, TX in 1965 and raised two loving children, Debora and Duane. His wife, Dora Heppert passed away in 2006 after several bouts with cancer.
Dennis enjoyed fishing and would hold a fish fry in his neighborhood sharing his catch of the day. He was a giving person and often would share his catch of the day with his many friends. He also loved classical music. He liked to smoke hams or turkeys and would hold a barbeque with close friends, John and Pam Donaho and other friends.
Preceding him in his death are his parents, Paul and Edna Heppert; his wife, Dora (Richardson); a sister, Erma and her husband, Gene Kloster; a brother, David Heppert and nephew, Steven and niece, Judith Kloster.
He is survived by his children, daughter Debora of Bossier City, LA and son Duane of Haughton, LA; his brother, Paul (Sarah) Heppert of Elmwood Park, IL; his sister, Lynn (Larry) Schmidt of Hudson, Ohio; and his sister in law, Mary Kay Heppert of Minneola, FL and five nephew, many grandnieces, grandnephews, great- grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, LA. A Celebration service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park with military honors.
