On March 10, 2015, Charles E. Townes, our beloved husband, Daddy, Grandad and Great Grandad went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 92. Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 9:00 am at Cross Point Baptist Church in Bossier City, and a service of celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 13 at 10:00 am at Cross Point Baptist Church in Bossier City. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton. The service will be conducted by Pastor Shane Nugent. Charles was a charter member of Cross Point Baptist Church. As his health continued to decline, his church attendance remained steadfast until he became homebound.
Charles was born on October 30, 1922 in Springdale, Arkansas to Orville and Lillian Townes. He graduated from Fayetteville High School. Following his graduation, he proudly served during WWII in the United States Army. After being wounded and receiving the Bronze Star, he returned home and married his wife of 69 years, Jeanette Morriss Townes. He attended the University of Arkansas and received his degree in Marketing. Upon graduation, he moved his family to Louisiana and started his 35-year career with SWEPCO. He retired in 1984 from SWEPCO as the manager of data processing. His legacy will be remembered as a man of true integrity who valued both family and the promise of his eternal home. Even with much of his memory erased he often stated, “You know, I have had a good life”.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Norma Townes McNair, a brother Bobby Townes, a sister Nena Little, and his cherished great granddaughter Katie Caroline Ward. His legacy lives on through his wife Jeanette M. Townes; daughter Janice France and her husband, Jonn; daughter Elaine Duncan and her husband, Chuck; grandchildren Jana Jackins and her husband, Robert; Paul Parker and his wife, Bridget; Lance Parker and his wife, Amanda; Tina Theodos and her husband, Michael; Toni Ward and her husband, Will; and Amy Jo Gates and her husband, Mathew; and great grandchildren, Casi, Edy, Sydney, Ty, Andrew, Blaine, Lainey, Kynlea Claire, Grayson, McKenna and Grant.
