Thomas “Tommy” Quintus Garth, III, 63, a resident of the Briery Branch community of Dayton, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2011, at his residence.
A son of the late Thomas Q. Garth, II and Beatrice McKemy Garth, he was born on July 20, 1947 in Lexington and grew up in Northern Virginia. He served in the Army during Vietnam. Tommy came to Rockingham County in the early 1980’s and had worked as an engineer for Transprint and later a computer programmer for DCS and R. L. Nelson for the past 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Harrisonburg Moose Lodge.
On Sept. 23, 2005 he married Margaret “Margee” Blair who survives him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a step-son, Patrick Dingledine and his wife Josie of Oxnard, CA; one step-grandson, Aiden Dingledine; one sister, Marian Garth McCarron and her husband,. Dana, of Fulks Run; two nieces, Tina Farrell Suter of Natural Bridge and Shelly Farrell of Harrisonburg; and one great-niece, Addie Suter.
He was cremated at the Lindsey Funeral Home and Crematory and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clover Hill Rescue Squad, in his memory.
