Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and took correspondence courses to become a draftsman after his return. He worked as a draftsman in Johnstown, PA until he relocated to the Harrisburg area in 1960. He spent many years prior to retirement working as a highway designer at PennDOT.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas D. and Goldie M. (nee’ King) Rose, and his first wife of 50 years, Rachel “Rae” Rose (nee’ Rice), who passed away in December 1992. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles Richard “Dick”, and Robert R Rose, and sister, Betty Hropovich.
Tom is survived by his wife of almost 21 years, Mildred (nee’ Parker); daughter Joan R. Weiser of Collegeville PA; two step-daughters: Janet Runk of Annville and Sallie Miller of Elizabethtown; two granddaughters: Julia L. Tom was a “born-again” believer and the work of the Christian Church was a big part of his life. He served for many years as the treasurer of the Harrisburg chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship (FGBMFI), and truly enjoyed it, especially the regional conventions.
For many years he enjoyed traveling in his RV, mostly to Florida every winter. He also enjoyed watching TV (especially the Pittsburgh Pirates), square dancing, and loved returning to Johnstown bi-annually for the Rose Reunion.
No service is currently scheduled. Memorial donations may be made in Tom’s name to either of two organizations he held close to his heart: Teen Challenge Training Center, PO Box 98, Rehrersburg PA 19550, or The Christian Broadcasting Network, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23463.
