Robert Kurtis (formerly Robert J. Krutulewski, Jr.); 72, of West Hanover Township and formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Bob was lovingly known by his friends as “Radar” and “Quart-a-Whiskey.” Bob retired as an Application Developer with the State Employee’s Retirement System at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He previously worked as a Systems Analyst with the former AMP, Inc., for almost 23 years, where on his last SAP assignment, he and his wife were temporarily relocated to London. He was also a programmer at the former P.A. & S. Small Company and the McCrory Corporation, both in York, PA. He graduated from William Penn H.S., Class of 1965, in New Castle, DE, attended Cerritos Junior College in Norwalk, CA, Penn State (York Campus), and Harrisburg Area Community College. He earned a computer programming certificate from Automation Institute in Los Angeles, CA, and earned a COMPTIA certificate as an A+ Computer Service Technician through Penn College of Technology. He was a U.S. Navy combat veteran with two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Radarman 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Walke DD-723. He was a past 8 year member of the Harrisburg Motorcycle Club, holding positions of membership chairman, board member, and canteen manager. He was a past plant representative, board member, recorder, and president of the AMP Nimrods Sportsman’s Organization. He was a 30 year member of the Harley Owners Group, a 30 year Life Charter Member of the American Motorcyclist Association, a 34 year member of American Legion Post #272 in Linglestown, a former 7 year member of VFW Post #148 in Union Deposit, and a current VFW Life Member at Santoni-Dinnini Post #1213 in Rutherford. He was also a 22 year life member of the Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club (Harrisburg Chapter), holding past positions of secretary at Chapter, State, and North Atlantic Region, and national levels, and most recently, the president of the Harrisburg Chapter. Bob was an avid motorcyclist and over the years enjoyed riding to many places, including Wildwood, NJ, Ocean City, MD, Sturgis, SD, Myrtle Beach, SC, Nova Scotia, Daytona Beach, FL, Laconia, NH, Key West, FL, Americade in Lake George, NY, and to Rolling Thunder in Washington, DC 15 times, and to the Harley plants in York, PA, and Milwaukee, WI. His other pastimes included creating stained glass projects and working on his cars, truck, and motorcycle, and watching NFL football. He especially looked forward to watching his favorite footballs times, the Seahawks, Steelers, and Eagles. Surviving is his wife and best friend of 30 years, Linda “Kate” Kurtis; a son, Robert Peterson, of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Gordon “Yakkov” Krutulewski of Montreal, Canada; a stepson, Bill Cousins of Dalmatia; three stepdaughters, Melanie Daugherty of Millersburg, Michelle Peterson of Myrtle Creek, OR, and Jennifer Galbraith of Dalmatia, and three step-grandchildren, Eric Krokan, Amanda Lane, and Danielle Buffington. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
