John J. Mank, 85, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 11, 2023, at Oak Hill Village, Middletown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Mank; sisters Elizabeth (Beth) Holden and Mary Lister; grandson Joey Pavlakovich and son-in-law Jim Bailey. He is survived by his wife Ellen, Mechanicsburg, PA; sisters Ruth McLaren and Peggy (Lou) Hirsch, Wilmington, DE; son Joe (Sharon) of Halifax, PA; daughter Patty (Bill) Myers, Mechanicsburg, PA; daughter Amy Bailey, Dauphin, PA and daughter Christy Pavlakovich, Mechanicsburg, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren JC, Carly and Catie Mank; Abby (Jim) Williams, Sarah, and Jonathan Myers; Michael (Marah) Hoffecker and Christopher Bailey; Emily (Mike) Stein and Hope Pavlakovich. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Blake Allen, Beckett Solimeo and Addisyn Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was born December 8, 1937, in Weehawken, NJ. He was a graduate of the Universities of Delaware and Maryland. He retired from the US Department of Agriculture, Soil Conversation Service as well as the PA Department of Environmental Protection. He took great pleasure in his more than 60-year tradition of fishing at Reservoir Decelles, Canada and Henderson Harbor, NY. John was proud of his 28-year friendship with Bill W; a fan of the Washington Redskins and the New York Yankees.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 17, 2023 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be from 10:00 AM Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Hill Village, Phoenix Ward, to benefit the residents or to the charity of your choice for dementia research.
