On Saturday, June 16, John Edward Koury, of Linglestown, --husband, father, son and brother--passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 32 years, Cheryl A.(Kutchinsky), and his children: John E. Koury, Jr., Linglestown; Danielle Elliott (Jason), New Cumberland; Michael Joseph Koury, at home as well as his parents, John and Rose Koury, Shenandoah; sister, Kathryn Buchanan, Shenandoah; brother, Rev. James J Koury,
Boston, MA; nieces Brittany and Erin Buchanan, Shenandoah; grandson, Owin Elliott, New Cumberland.
Although they did not start dating until much later, John and Cheryl were born three days apart and grew up in the same hometown of Shenandoah . There is even a picture of the two of them in a playpen when they turned one.
After graduating from Shenandoah Valley H.S. in 1980, John went onto the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1984. John worked for Whiting-Turner Construction Company from 1984-1989 and has worked for Quandel Construction Group, Incorporated since 1989 and, most recently, held the position of President and COO.
John was highly active in the Holy Name of Jesus Church, serving as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, Religion Education Instructor, a Member of Knights of Columbus Council 14081, a 4th Degree Member of Assembly 3167 in Harrisburg and a TMIY (That Man is You) Member. His faith was an integral part of his life, as anyone who knew him could attest to. He lived his faith and often said, "It's a beautiful day to serve the Lord by serving others."
John was devoted to his family. He enjoyed long walks and dancing with his wife, most recently at their daughter's wedding. He had a great sense of humor and a broad smile that he readily shared with anyone he met. He loved to garden and feed the birds in his back yard.
John's sudden passing leaves a large hole for his family, coworkers and friends. They will gather to remember him from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, June 22, 2018 at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. A viewing will be at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2018 ay Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
