From the clip-clop of the milk-man's horse-drawn cart at dawn to the modern wonder of an instantaneous electronic video chat with her son Paul on the other side of the world, JoAnn Speaker (nee Dunn), witnessed tremendous changes throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The one constant was her dedication and love for her family. JoAnn sacrificed her own ambitions to spend over seventy years supporting, feeding, clothing, mending, advising and celebrating her beloved six boys and their families. Born on August 19, 1932, JoAnn died on December 15, 2024, leaving behind some fifty descendants, including five surviving sons, Mark (Kathy), Paul (Kathleen), Peter (Vicki), Andrew (Margaret), and Thomas (Erin). Sometimes some of her boys were like angels, other times, not so much, to put it mildly. She loved them all the same, all the time, no matter what. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Dunn, her brothers, Richard, Robert, and Joseph, her sister, Helen, her wonderful husband, Fred, her grandson, Thomas, and her cherished son, Joseph (Patricia). JoAnn is also survived by countless grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. JoAnn was a smart, kind, loving person with a great sense of humor, who will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by many.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 AM on January 4, 2025, at the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania, where JoAnn volunteered as a reader for many years, or another charity of your choice.
