Joy was raised in Hanford on Marchbanks Farms and attended High School at Hanford High where she was involved in Jobs Daughters and was a Demolay Sweetheart. After graduating High School she attended College of the Sequoias and went on to become a Dental Assistant. Joy’s enthusiasm for life and learning didn’t stop there. A few years later she discovered a passion for flying. She earned her Private Pilot’s License and went on to receive her Double II (instrument instructor) and ATP certificates, along with multiple Corporate Jet Ratings. She worked as a Flight Instructor, Check-Ride Examiner, and Corporate Pilot, traveling throughout the Americas from Canada to South America accumulating in excess of 7,000 hours of flight time. But flying wasn’t her only passion. She had a passion for sewing and cooking. And, like everything she did, she excelled at it. She could almost always be found (when not in her garden) with a cook book in her hands, and the cooking channel on TV, while looking for a new recipe to try out on her friends and family. She was a gracious hostess and her doors were always open to whoever stopped by. One thing was for sure, nobody ever left hungry when they stopped by the Hansen’s. Joy will be deeply missed, and never forgotten, by her Husband Jim Hansen of 24 years, her children; Tami Mayol, Kim Apgar, Chip Apgar, and stepson Jeremy Hansen, and her Brother and Sister-in-Law , Gary and Karen Marchbanks. She will also be deeply missed by her 9 grandchildren; Danna, Jessica, Taylor, Trent, Matt, Kieran, Adian, Nathan, Annika, her 3 nieces; Kelli, Tiffany and Holly and of course her 2 dogs that have stayed by her side throughout all of this. The lives she touched are too numerous too mention and will deeply missed by them as well. We love you.
A graveside service will be held at Hanford Cemetery on Friday, September 25th, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Kings Country Club. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angel Flight West at: angelflightwest.org or by calling 888-426-2643. It is a non profit volunteer organization that supplies free private air transportation for very ill patients who cannot otherwise afford to get to their out of town doctors.
