Jimmy served in the Navy for 23 years. After retiring from the military, he went on to work at Chase Bag/Union Camp until his second retirement. He was a member of the Elks for many years and a member of the Military Order of the Louse. He loved gardening, watching the San Francisco 49ers, watching the San Francisco Giants, and watching Nascar. He enjoyed visiting his friends at Spirits Lounge and the Elk’s Lodge. In years past, he enjoyed hunting and camping.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents George and Ethel, his sisters Lillian, Louise, Edith, and Annie Mae, his brothers George and Charles, his stepson Terry Gaitan, and his granddaughter Kally Brownen.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Jeannie Chavis, his sister Mary Torrence, and brother Henry Chavis. He is survived by his son Scott Chavis and his children, Paul Chavis, Megan Hawkins, and Sussie Sierra. He is
survived by his daughter Tammy Salazar and her children, Kassie Gonzales, Kirstin Smith, and Kourtney Tole. He is survived by his daughter Gail Smith and husband Leigh Smith and their children Jeremy Dillon and Hunter Cortez. He is survived by his stepdaughter Tracey Brazil and husband Jim Brazil and their children Matthew Brazil and Jessie Brazil. He is survived by twenty-one grandchildren with a few more on the way.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday September 24th between 4:00-7:00 pm at People’s Funeral Chapel. The Memorial Service is postponed until further notice.
