Born July 2, 1940 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to Arthur Lee Higgs and Evelyn Virginia Tolbert Higgs. Wayne served in the United States Army until retiring in 1980, attaining the rank of E-7 Sergeant First Class. On July 6, 1959 he married Trula Mae Wells in Wise, Virginia. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on July 6th, 2012. After his Army retirement, he moved to Coalinga, California to be closer to his parents and brothers family. Wayne worked various oil field jobs before going to work for the County of Fresno Road Maintenance Department until retiring in the early 90's. Through the years, Wayne donated to several organizations including the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Valley Children's Hospital. Wayne will be especially remembered for his positive attitude and his wonderful sense of humor. He had a love for fishing, camping and boating with his wife and children. All children loved Wayne and called him Grandpa. Wayne was Mr. fix it and he was everyone's "go to" guy. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Trula Mae Higgs of Hanford, California; Sons, David Wayne Higgs and wife, Debbie and their family of Appomattox, Virginia; Rickey Lee Higgs and wife Theresa and their family and Paul Jeffery Higgs and wife Tricia of Coalinga, California; Daughter and Caregiver for many years, Lisa René Higgs of Hanford, California and Daughter, Sherry Ann Higgs and fiancé Gregory Anderson and family of Las Vegas, Nevada; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; His younger brother Paul Edward Higgs Sr. and his wife Charletta and their family of Bakersfield, California; Aunt Ruby Hull of Coleman, Texas along with many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law and their families. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee Higgs Sr. and Evelyn Virginia Tolbert Higgs; older brother Arthur Lee Higgs Jr.; younger sister Sharon Kay Hood along with numerous treasured family and friends.
A Memorial will be held for Wayne on Saturday, January 5th at 2pm at People's Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty St. Hanford, California, 93230.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a get together at the chapel following the memorial service. In Lieu of flowers, do as Wayne would do and lend a helping hand to someone in need.
A special note to Wayne's loving Mother in Law Ruby Mae Wells of Cherryville, NC, he loved you so much along with brother and sisters in law that were more like his kids whom he loved dearly.
