Charles Eugene “Gene” Nice, a beloved member of the Hanford community, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 in Fresno, California. He was born to parents Dan and Lydia Nice on November 28, 1944 in Seattle, Washington.
Gene proudly served in the United States Navy for 25 years before retiring as a Senior Chief in Hanford, California. He also worked at Micky’s Bar & Grill as a bartender, was a Property Manager, and demonstrated his entrepreneurial drive as the owner of Nice-Ly Done Ground Maintenance.
He was an active member of The Elks and The Fleet Reserve, and his love of sports shone through as he umpired children’s baseball games and passionately cheered for his teams: The Raiders and The Chicago Cubs. He was also a fan of music, particularly country music, and was even in a band in his younger days.
Gene leaves behind his brothers Dan Nice, Gary Lindsay, and John Wayne Nice, his sister Terri Lea (Nice) Burtis, two children, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous friends and family who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Lydia Nice, sister Susanne Ruth Nice, and his son Charles Eugene Nice, Jr.
A Memorial Service for Gene will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM at People's Funeral Chapel (501 North Douty Street, Hanford, CA 93230). The Reception will follow immediately at Hanford Elks Lodge across the street (506 North Douty Street).
