Obituary of William "Ben" Bennett Weatherford
It is with immense sadness that the family and friends of William Bennett Weatherford announce his passing. Following a full and vibrant life, Ben was called to his Heavenly home on Monday, July 29, 2024. He was 87 years old. Ben was born in Dallas, Texas on July 13, 1937. His parents, Carl and Pauline Weatherford, preceded him in death. Although accomplished in many ways, he had many fond memories of his young, modest life in the country with his sister Carlene. That background provided him with an impeccably high moral compass and the highest of principles. Ben never missed an opportunity to help anyone in need. Be it a shoulder, a tool from his garage, guidance, or a good laugh, he was there for family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. All benefited from his vast knowledge and compassionate, caring ways. His modesty was ever prevalent. Although highly intelligent, he would often say “there are some people dumber than me, and a lot of people smarter than me”. Quintessential Ben. Ben was a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU) and a proud member of Theta chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Utah Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program and was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Ben was a proud, honored, and decorated US Army combat veteran with 22 years of distinguished service. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from Fort Monroe, Virginia in 1984. His service included a combat tour in Vietnam during the Tet offensive (1968). His career also provided the opportunity of serving with the United States Air Force at Ramstein AB, Germany. As a liaison officer, he flew F4 aircraft with the 86th Tactical Fighter Wing. These years were the highlight of his career. While in Europe, he met his wife Vicki. They were happily married for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Kristen (Jim), of San Francisco, CA, and two sons, Kirk (Ashley) of Santa Rosa, CA and Jason, of Yorktown, VA. Ben was a proud grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Skye, Kiefer, Joseph, and Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister, Carlene, of Weatherford, TX and many loving nephews and nieces. His many friends and loved ones will cherish their times with Ben. He was an accomplished woodworker, sailor, coach, and scout leader. He will live in our hearts forever. We will honor Ben on Saturday, 10 August, 2024 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
