Capt. Michael Anthony Ferrell, 58, answered God’s call on October 25, 2013 after fighting a determined battle with liver cancer.
For 36 years Michael was a waterman, the last 12 years piloting the scallop trawler, Divine Mercy. He was born in Charleston, SC on Sept. 18, 1955. As a son of a military family he lived in numerous states and countries but called Hampton, VA home for the last 40 years. Michael was an honorable and generous man who loved doing for others. He was a family man and his greatest joy in life was his children. He leaves his family a true legacy of love. He was our blessing and we will love and miss him always.
Michael is survived by his wife, Donna Daniel Ferrell; and their children, Robert Hugh Ferrell, Max Pierce Ferrell and Haley Kay Ferrell. Also surviving him is his mother, Lilly B. Ferrell; brother, Thomas P. Ferrell, Jr.; sisters, Idar Stout and Christina Perkins, all of Danville, VA, Alexia Luikert and husband Pete, and Pam Morris of Hampton, VA; father and mother-in-law, Robert L. and Mabel B. Daniel; sister-in-law, Kay Daunheimer; seven nieces; one nephew; and his other family, the crew members of the Divine Mercy. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas P. Ferrell, Sr.; brothers, William J. Ferrell and Robert E. Ferrell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm, Monday, October 28, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, October 29 at Northampton Church of Christ, 1409 Todds Lane, in Hampton. Interment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
