Nelllie Marie was born in Concord, VA to James William Roberts and Mattie Almond Roberts. One of eight siblings: J.W., Don Preston, Richard Hunger, Minnie Christine, Gracie Louise, Mattie Vivian, & Nannie Roulette all predeceased.
Nellie Marie moved to the area of Newport News at the age of 18 to live with sister, Vivian & her husband, Ellis. She began working at a local grocery the “Colonial Store.” A handsome young man came through her line and ask her for a date. His name was Kyle Vernon Scott. On January 17th, 1948, she married Vernon. The two settled in Hampton at a place called Copeland Park. In 1949, Brenda Ann was born. Later on Vernon and Nellie Marie began to build their future home together. Vernon was his own contractor and Marie his helper. November 1963 Vernon & Marie moved into their new home. The winter (November) 1964 Debra Dee was born.
Marie was a homemaker and a woman of faith. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. Her passions were church, sewing, gardening, and dessert. Mom loved growing Gladiolus (red) and making peach cobbler from our peach tree, talking daily for hours to her sister, Vivian until her death. Always caring about everyone mom would take fresh flowers and a homemade dessert to a friend in need of a friend.
A special thanks to everyone who cared for Mom twenty-four seven the past few years.
All services will be private at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton VA.
