He was born on September 9th, 1944 in Newport News, VA. Larry was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. Larry graduated from Hampton High School in 1962. He joined the Navy to see the world and he did. Larry married Janet in 1968. They loved having fun on the Chesapeake Bay in their boats, traveling, going to the beach, or just being together.
Larry enjoyed spending time with his sons Bryan and Jeff, and his grandson Austin. He was Vice President of sales at Ideal Fastener Corporation. He loved his job and retired with top honors.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Admiral and Viola Phillips, and two sisters, Betty Jo and Becky.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Staton Phillips; 2 sons, J. Bryan Clouse, Jeffrey H. Phillips; and one grandson, Austin H. Phillips. He is also survived by his brothers, Jack Phillips of Atlanta, GA, Ron Phillips of Hampton, Va., David Phillips of Newport News, VA; his sisters, Theresa Newman of Atlanta, GA., Dorothy Porter of Daphne, Al.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Larry adored his wife, sons, and grandson. Larry loved spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He will be greatly missed and carried in our hearts forever.
A private celebration of a life well lived will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Poole Grant Clubhouse, 30 Brough Lane, Hampton VA 23669.
