John David Smith Jr. of Hampton, Virginia passed last Saturday evening, April 17, 2021, at the age of 73.
John was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to John D. Smith and Doris D. (Ehrheart) Smith on July 18, 1947. He received his GED and went on to serve twenty-four devoted years in the United States Navy. He started his naval career as a parachute rigger and ended as a Senior Chief Master of Arms. John obtained his Associates Degree in Environmental Protection from Tidewater Community College in 1995.
John is survived by his children and their spouses, John D Smith III and Michelle M Smith, Timothy W Smith and Lisa M Smith, and stepson, Edward B Geer; brothers and sisters, Henry Blocker, David Smith, Gordon Smith, Shawn Smith, Merry Dyson, and Sandra Mucciante; his grandchildren; close friend, Carolyn Rochelle.
