OBITUARY
John William Sharpe
5 May, 1932 – 28 September, 2010
IN THE CARE OF
Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park
John William Sharpe, born May 5, 1932 in Buckingham County, Virginia and a resident of Hampton over 50 years, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 28, 2010. A devoted husband and father, he was the sweetest granddaddy anyone could ever know. John touched the lives of many and will be remembered especially for his great sense of humor and kind spirit. As a resident of Hampton, he helped to build Hampton Roads. John was a skilled heavy equipment operator and Forman for Ferguson Construction and later Suburban Grading and Utilities, providing us with many of the streets and retail spaces we all use, everyday. John also served our country as a SGT in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a gentle giant, feared by few but loved by many.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Jewel Sharpe; their five children, Bill and Kathy Sharpe of Smithfield, Wesley and Lisa Sharpe of Poquoson, Jason Sharpe and Brian Sharpe of Newport News, and Shannon and Kevin Harlow of Hampton; eight beloved grandchildren, Kelly and Justin Brod, Abby and Beau Bunting, Dylan, Brittany, Patrick and Anna Marie Sharpe, and Vici and Kevin Reed Harlow; and two great-grandson’s, Jack and Fletcher Brod.
Friends and family are invited to visit Thursday, September 30 from 6-7:30 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of John’s life will be held Friday, October 1 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, in Hampton. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, in Hampton.
