Born on January 22, 1945 in the mountains of Waynesboro, Virginia, he was the son of Phillip Bean and Agnes Lee. Jerry lived in Waynesboro until he was 16 years old, which is where he developed his intense love for the mountains. Later, he worked as a materials inspector at the Newport News Shipyard.
Jerry was an avid Redskins fan and liked to work with wood. He also loved anything to do with animals and nature. Jerry had numerous bird feeders in his yard and in his free time could be found either watching the birds or working in his vegetable garden.
He is preceded in death by his father, Phillip Bean; mother, Agnes Lee; step-father, Coy Richard Lee; and brother, Roger.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Bean; son, Randy Bean; step-daughter, Michelle (Joaquin) Escudero-Green; step-son, Alan E. Green; his orange tabby cat, Toby; and a host of family members and friends.
