Jerome "Jerry" Olson

Jerry Olson passed away peacefully at home on December 6, 2023.

Born and raised in Northwood, North Dakota as the fourth of eight children, he entered the Armed Services just prior to his 18th birthday, beginning his 28 ½ - year career with the Army.

Duty assignments took him to several bases across the U.S., as well as overseas, with Ft. Monroe as his final assignment. He faithfully served his country, including two tours in Vietnam, and his military awards included the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation. He was proud of his service, retiring as a Sergeant Major.

While in the service, Jerry met and married his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Ikuko, and together they lovingly raised their two children, James and Patricia and would later welcome four grandchildren into the world.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Myrtle Olson, his siblings, Myrle, Lyle, Marvin, Arlynn and Dennis. He leaves behind his wife, Ikuko Olson, son, James Olson, daughter, Patricia (Kenny) Thomas, and grandchildren, Cassidy Olson, Connor Olson, Ryan Olson, and Romi Thomas. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Joy) Olson and sister, Carol Davis.

Jerry loved fishing, reading, fixing just about anything, and directing his family troops. He cherished his role as a grandfather, and protected his family until his final rest.

He will be deeply missed.

An interment for Jerry will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Following the interment will be a visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
