He loved the Lord and was a faithful follower until his last breath. He had a bass voice like no other. He loved Gospel singing and sang in the Greenwood quartet and Clarions gospel group for many years. He was a retired brick mason foreman, having worked many years with Capital and Sprinkle Masonry. You can see his handiwork in many commercial buildings around Tidewater, including Riverside Hospital. He was an excellent fisherman and member of Bassmaster’s. He served in the National Guard for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary E. Edwards; daughter Denise Taylor (Rick); son Barry Edwards (Joanne) Grandchildren, Nicholas Taylor, Jessica Williams, Cameron Taylor, Katie Toliver and Anna Edwards; 13 Great grandchildren and one on the way; nieces Carolyn Nixon (Terry) and Janet Smith (Bill); special sister-in-law Bertha Anderson, brother-in-law James Ellis and many loved family members.
Visitation will be held at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home Hampton on May 15 at 1 PM with services at 2PM and entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1802A South Church St., Smithfield, VA 23430.
