Charles V. Mayer, Jr., 88, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from the Newport News Shipyard in 1984 after over 40 years of service.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Charles Vincent, Sr. and Lora Mayer; three brothers, Lloyd D. Mayer, Eugene Mayer and John Waggoner and two sisters, Juanita Hillary and Barbara Smith.
He was survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne W. Mayer; his son Charles “C.V.” Mayer, III and his wife Beverly; step-grandson Bryan Calfee; sister Lorraine Scarlett and her husband James and their daughter Nita Scarlett.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM, Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A Committal service will follow at 2 PM in the Chapel Mausoleum in Parklawn Memorial Park.
