IN THE CARE OF
Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park
Barbara Ann (Augustine) Fletcher passed away peacefully on 11 January 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a courageous 3+ year battle with cancer.
She never gave up the fight, her body just gave out. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Augustine and sister, Sis Gressick. She is survived by her husband, Tom of 65 years and their three children; Barbara J. Andleton of Hampton, VA, and Thomas K. and David W. Fletcher of The Florida Keys. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren; Danielle, David, and Jesse, all of Hampton, VA, and Taylor Fletcher of Glenn Springs, CO; six great grandchildren, Devon, Marcus, Jr., Alyssa, Isaac, Serenity, and Brody; sisters, Patricia, Zedek and husband, Chuck (deceased), Frankie Augustine, Connie Abrams and husband, Bill, and of course, Richie and Maria all of PA, and Mike from Florida.
Barbara was born in Carrolltown, PA and left with her husband, Tom in 1957 to begin a 30+ year career as an Air Force wife. She loved to travel and travel she did. Our last duty station was in Germany and was a take-off point for her many travels like Belgium, England, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and above all, every square inch of Germany and Austria. She could be seen with a small suitcase boarding a bus or at a train station for a new travel experience. She, along with her husband, retired from the Air Force on January 1, 1988 and traveled for the next 6 months in the United States visiting friends and relatives (pay back). She became a bowling enthusiast when stationed in the P.I. and continued everywhere she was stationed; Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Iran, Syracuse, NY, and finally at Langley AFB, VA.
We want to thank the VA Oncology Associates for their dedication and the treatment they gave Barbara, which could never be surpassed. The services provided by the nurses, doctors, and staff were above what could ever possibly be expected. Their names are too numerous to be listed. Sentara Hospice provided services that were second to none and made these trying times bearable. A special thanks to Father John for his kind and generous services provided on Christmas Eve. All services will be private per Barbara’s request. She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, nephews, nieces, and many bowling friends. A special thanks to her friends, Carolyn and Phil, and Janie and Nancy who gave her comfort and joy during her final days.
