Alvin Thomas Jones, Sr.

LTC Alvin T. Jones, Sr., 73, a native of Johnstown, PA and a resident of Hampton for over 30 years, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Sentara CarePlex. Born on August 18, 1938 to the late Elbert and Lillie Jones, Alvin attended Central State University in Ohio from 1955-1959. He received a degree in Business Administration and was commissioned to second lieutenant in 1961. In 1963, he completed aviation school. During his military career he had many stateside assignments, along with several overseas tours in Germany and Vietnam. Lt. Col. Jones received two distinguished flying crosses, a bronze star, and a meritorious medal. After retirement, he was employed for 10 years with the Newport News School System. He was a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and LesHommes Social Club. Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Barbara; son, Alvin Jr. (Brigitte); daughter, Lena Parker (Jerry); and two grandchildren, Brandon and Selena Jones. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Celebration of Alvin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel.
