Marvin Gerald Smith, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Savior, with dignity and grace surrounded by his wife and daughters at his home in Salado, Texas on Tuesday November 10,, 2020. Marvin was born the third of seven children to Marland Genfield Smith and Selma Ida Lueck Smith on August 31, 1940 in Dallas County. Marvin grew up and attended school in Dallas then joined the US Air Force Reserves. After returning to Dallas, he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Mitchell Smith on July 18, 1964 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Dallas. The same Pastor Bauerkamper that performed their marriage ceremony, conducted Marvin’s confirmation and baptism at the age of 14 on April 11, 1954 at the same church, Our Savior Lutheran. Marvin loved the Lutheran church and served as an elder for many years at Christ Lutheran Church in Pattison, Texas. Marvin had a love and passion for horses and exotic birds and tropical plants and trees. He was a member of the International Palm Society and traveled with this group to his favorite destination of Hawaii on more than one occasion. He was happy to share his love and knowledge with anyone who would listen. He also had a love for flying and was able to fulfill his dreams of obtaining his private pilot’s license. Marvin spent over 30 years in building material sales and production and retired from US Postal Service in 2006 after 16 years. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Marland and Selma and brothers; Royce, Richard and Melvin. Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Smith of Salado, daughters Suzanne and husband Terry Culp of Salado, Pamela Smith Platt of Temple Texas, son-in-law Greg Platt of Katy Texas grandsons Randall Culp and wife Trisha and their children Mylee and Ian of Denver Colorado, Forrest Culp and wife Kaley of Arvada, Colorado Ryan Platt of Katy Texas, Connor Platt of Katy Texas and Preston Culp of Salado Texas. Marvin is also survived by his sister Gloria Schrah and husband Ray of Boswell, OK., brothers Carl Don Smith and Charles Smith of Dallas and many nieces and nephews.
