It is with great sadness that the family of Russell (Russ) Tomlinson announce his passing at St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday, October 7, 2019 in his 86th year. Born on August 19, 1934 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to Mary Ann (nee Hilliard) and Selby Tomlinson.
Beloved husband for 42 years of the late Dianne (nee Kartonchik) who passed away December 22, 2002. Loving father of Linda Kolpin and her husband Bruce, Verne and his wife Mary, and Robert. Cherished grandfather, "Papa" of Kristopher Kolpin and his wife Andrea , Tyler Kolpin and Dylan Tomlinson. Survived by his brother Clifford and his wife Joanne. Predeceased by his siblings Maxwell, Lloyd, Laurence, Raymond and Blanche. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Russ was a retired employee of Stelco Local 1005, a volunteer firefighter on the Smithville Fire Department and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 129. He enjoyed Monday evenings bowling with his friends in the Croatian National Home Men's 5 pin bowling league. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Visitation will be held at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Hamilton/Burlington S.P.C.A may be made in lieu of flowers, as Russ loved his dogs, Pudgie, Taffy and Buddie. Thank you to all the doctor's, nurses and PSW's caring for Dad, especially Dr. E. Carlisle, Dr. L. Nguyen, VON RN Tim and Bayshore PSW-Anthony, over the past year. Special thanks to Dr. Khalid, Dr. Uppal and Dr. Semplonius for their exemplary care while at St. Joseph's Hospital. Thank you to the nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital who gave my dad such compassionate care during the past 10 days. You are all angels.
