Michael was born in Hamilton to father Samuel Buchanan and mother Elsie (Henneck). Loving husband and best friend of Marian Beaton for 41 years, proud father of his two sons, Mark and Quince, and grandfather to Shane and Evan. Michael was one of six siblings and is predeceased by brother Samuel Jr. and sisters Norma and Jeanette, and survived by brother James and sister Patricia. Loving uncle to Richard, Cameron, Michael (Toth), Patrick, Michael (Edwards) and Kathleen.
Michael spent the majority of his youth participating in the many sports he excelled at, including playing football for the Hamilton Hurricanes and Burlington Braves.
Michael was also a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve, where he performed his duties as a radio and signal operator.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Michael was member of the Hamilton Ironworkers Local 736 for over 50 years and became a highly valued and respected supervisor of many large projects.
Michael had an immense passion for fishing and camping and enjoyed his many outings with his wife, children and friends. Michael’s other main passion in life was antique collecting. One of his proudest achievements was opening a successful antique business with Marian on Ottawa Street in Hamilton.
Michael always had a feisty sense of humour and was undoubtedly memorable to all who met him. He will be missed greatly by all of his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at Marlatt Funeral Home at 615 Main St. E. (east of Sanford Ave.), Hamilton, on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
