Reunited in eternal life with her beloved husband of 64 years, Toma Umolac, who predeceased her Nov. 25, 2019. Loving mother of Vilko (Margaret). Cherished "Baba" to Catherine (Chris). Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews in Australia, Croatia and Canada. She was predeceased by her parents Nikola and Barbara Staresinic (nee Maletic) and her sisters Anka and Ruza. Born Marica Staresinic in the Croatian village of Protulipa, she met the love of her life at a wedding in a nearby village. In the late 1950s, Marica and Toma sought a better life for themselves and their young son. Toma emigrated to Canada first and Marica and Vilko followed in 1962, where they remained a steadfast, caring, devoted team. Marica was an excellent worker, often juggling more than one job at once and she wasn't afraid to quit a job if a promised pay raise didn't come through. A strong and independent woman, Marica took great pride in her appearance and the upkeep of her home. Always ready to lend a hand, Marica was a meticulous housekeeper, a seamstress and an excellent cook with stuffed peppers as her signature dish. She enjoyed parish picnics,“dates" with Toma at Denninger's, gathering with friends, shopping for a good deal, and celebrating family birthdays at restaurants. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Wednesday, December 7 from 3-7 pm with Rosary at 6:30 pm.
