She is predeceased by brothers Tadeusz and Kazimierz and nephew Stanislaw Niewiadomski. Janina is survived by sister-in-law Irena, nephews Henryk, Jan, Stanislaw, Bogdan and Roman Niewiadomski, also by nieces Maria (John Morel), Zofia and Krystyna (nee Niewiadomska) of Poland. She will be sadly missed by many great nieces and nephews and extended family in Poland.
At an early age, Janina suffered many hardships during the Second World War, escaping from a work camp, struggling to survive, then coming to Canada in the mid 60’s. Here in Canada, she was “Ciocia” to us all. She had an insatiable curiosity about people and their day to day lives, always eager to entertain us with anecdotes and share her knowledge of herbs and garden plants. She had a “green thumb” and we all benefitted from her garden.
Our family will receive visitors at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St. E. (at Kenilworth) on Sunday January 13 from 7 to 9 pm, with Rosary at 8:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. STANISLAW KOSTKA CHURCH, 8 Saint Ann St. (at Barton), on Monday January 14 at 9 am. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. The church of St. Stanislaw Kostka is raising funds to install an elevator that would benefit all, especially the elderly and disabled. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church would be much appreciated.
