Beloved wife of the late William Conley (2005) and cherished mother of Christine Conley (Alex Wood) and Coline Henry (Frank). Loving grandmother of David Sture, Melanie Winstanley (Duane), Martin (Mimi Galipeau) and Frances Conley-Wood. Great-grandmother of Gage and Lucy Winstanley. Survived by her sister Martha Reid and predeceased by parents Euphemia and John Watson and sister Sadie McQuarrie.
Etta was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1924 and emigrated to Canada in 1947 in the wake of her sister, a war bride. Her first job was at the front desk of the Royal Connaught hotel where she met her future husband Bill. She later worked at Wood Alexander and at Firestone until her retirement in 1985. Etta loved music and dancing. She sang for many years in the choir at Chalmers Presbyterian and took up piano in middle age. Retirement included travel to the US, Caribbean, Europe and Tunisia and being a devoted grandma. She is remembered for many delicious family dinners! The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Queens Garden for their attentive care and kindness over the past 11 years and to the staff at the Hamilton General for their compassion during her final days.
Visitation will be held at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Friday, November 16th from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, November 17th at 11am. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy donations can be made to Theatre Aquarius in Etta's memory.
