Ernie was born and raised in London, Ontario, where he lived with his parents and brothers and sister. He was predeceased by brothers Ralph and Merlin and his sister Nora. He is survived by his brother Barry and Sharon.
Ernie and his first wife, Dorothy Marie, had 4 sons together: Daniel and Sue, Steven and Dawn, Tim and Gabriela, Jim and Deb. Six grandchildren and spouses, along with 6 great grandchildren, joined their lives. With his second wife, Dorothy Verna, Ernie acquired 6 more children: Carolyn and Doug, Norm and Sarah and Jan and Fred, as well as, 6 more grandchildren and spouses and 9 great grandchildren.
Following high school, Ernie entered the world of building and construction. Later, he returned to school, attending university and achieving a master’s degree in education. Ernie finished his career in Special Education and Guidance. Upon retirement, Ernie and Dorothy, left London to spend their time between the cottage in Muskoka and Naples, Florida.
Throughout Ernie’s life, his curiosity and interest in life, led him in many directions. In his retirement years, he became an experienced boater and sailor, rising through the commands of the Power Squadron, both in Muskoka and in Naples. He continued to pursue his interest in creating and building and designing, as well. He and Dorothy added to their retirement lives, 2 wonderful dogs – Sheba and then Jenna – who loved and enhanced their retirement years.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ernie’s life will be shared with family and friends. We all, and especially his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy, will remember, laugh and likely cry a little, celebrate a man, husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. We will gather at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E., on Tuesday, October 15th at 12pm until time of service at 1pm in the chapel with a reception to follow.
