As a life-time educator, Bettie began her teaching career in Halifax, NS. The family later moved to Ontario where Bettie continued to be a teacher, special needs teacher, French Immersion Librarian and Media Consultant for “The Board of Education for The City of Hamilton.” Bettie was President of the “Women Teachers’ Federation” and worked on several negotiation teams. She was an active and vocal advocate for the rights of women educators and played a vital role in contract settlements.
Bettie was very artistic and creative. She worked with her husband Ron building many wooden creations for their company “Wood ‘N Stuff”. Her hand painted Christmas ornaments, wooden stools, dollhouses, and plates were delightful gifts.
The world is a lesser place without her beautiful smile and sense of humour.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Williamsburg (with a special hug to Agatha) and “The Villages of Wentworth Heights” for all their support, kindness and care. In keeping with Bettie’s wishes, a private funeral will be held with her family.
