Barbara Czerkaszyn

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mom and grandma, Barbara Czerkaszyn. After fighting cancer for 8 months, she passed peacefully at home on December 16, 2024 at the age of 71.

Barb was born on 17th March 1953 in Waterdown. She worked for 11 years as a surgical and ICU nurse at Henderson Hospital and 30 years as a Community Care Case Manager with the CCAC. She will be remembered for the care and compassion she showed her patients, clients, colleagues and friends. Always there to lend an ear to listen, hold a hand and offer words of reassurance or advice. Barb was the heart of our home and family. She enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, dancing with her husband and attending the retiree social group. She was her daughter’s biggest supporter and never missed a single dance competition. Barb loved adventure, always ready to jump on a rollercoaster or a zipline. She could be found attending a show at the theater or exploring Niagara wineries with a glass of wine in hand. Always the most stylish person in the room, Barb had a smile and kind word for everyone she encountered.

Barb was the devoted wife of Alan for 49 years and will be dearly missed by her two daughters Samantha and Danielle, and son-in-law Tony Tavernese. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Sophia and Alexander. Barb is predeceased and now reunited with her son Adam, her parents Dorothy and Stanley Atkins, and mother-in-law Rita Czerkaszyn. She was the loving sister to Karen, Stanley (Katherine) and Debbie (Brian) and sister-in-law of Anne (Paul), Susan (Doug), Pamela (Murray) and Barbara (Bruno). She was also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family would like to thank the nurses at the Cancer Center, and Dr. Jimenez and his team for their care and compassion during Barb’s illness. We are grateful to family and friends who visited, dropped off food, sent gifts or checked in with messages of support.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to say a final goodbye at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E., Hamilton, on Friday, December 27th from 5-8pm. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, December 28th at 11am in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Make-A-Wish Canada in Barb and Adam’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
