Antonia is now reunited in heaven with Guido (2003) her beloved husband of 53 years. Antonia will be dearly missed by her daughter Maria, her son Giordano (Lynda), her grandchildren John (Andrea), Richard (Lisa), and Stephen. Her great-grandchildren Quinn, Nora, and Matthew will remember their adoring “Nonnetta” fondly.
Antonia’s life was full of challenges starting with the death of her father, which forced her to leave home at the age of twelve to work in Florence as a governess and housekeeper. After the war, she returned home and started a family with her beloved Guido. She moved her family to Canada in the late 1950s and settled in Toronto where she worked a variety of jobs. She moved to Hamilton to be closer to her grandchildren and spent forty years in the house that became her home.
Antonia will be fondly remembered by family and friends in Canada, Italy, France, Australia and Argentina. Her strong personality, perseverance and loving nature will be greatly missed. Antonia was always the centre of her family’s social life, and leaves behind a legacy of precious memories and enduring love.
A special ‘thank you’ to all the personal support workers and homecare nurses for their excellent care and compassion, especially Lulu, Isabella, and Samreen.
Family and friends are invited to attend Cresmount Funeral Home (322 Fennell Ave. E. Hamilton), Thursday May 16th from 6 pm to 9pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday May 17th at 10:30 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish (50 Brucedale Ave E). Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
In lieu of flowers donations to Antonia’s home parish of Sts. Peter & Paul, Hamilton would be greatly appreciated: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/44432
