Passed away peacefully at home on Friday June 15th 2012 after a brief illness. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (2008). Dear father of Dr. Jennifer of Hamilton, Rory of Kingston and Roger (Mary Ellen) of Waterloo. Loving and much loved grandfather of Rylan and Kaitlyn of Waterloo. Born in Kinallen, County Down, Northern Ireland. He is mourned by his sister Maude Dick and brother Ted both in Northern Ireland as well numerous nieces and nephews. He was educated in his native Ireland at Trinity College, Dublin, and took theological studies at New College, Edinburgh. He was ordained in 1950 by the Presbyterian Church of England in Heaton Presbyterian Church, Newcastle on Tyne. Upon emigrating to Canada in 1953 he served as the minister of Deep River Community Church (1953- 1959), Collier Street United, Barrie (1959 – 1964), Ryerson United, Hamilton (1964 – 1986) and Jordan Station United, Jordon (1986 – 1990). In 1976, he became the first Canadian to be awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. He will be remembered as a warm, gracious, jovial and sincere human being and a friend of unfailing gentleness. A faithful Christian life has come to the end of its earthly pilgrimage: his spirit is at rest in the safekeeping of God. Friends may visit with members of the family at MARLATT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford Ave.) Hamilton on Tuesday June 19th from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will take place in Marlatt Memorial Chapel on Wednesday June 20th 2012 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision Canada.
