Joseph William Dawson, Jr., age 75, of Hamilton, died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, Ohio. He was born on December 15, 1935, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph W. and Octavia B. (Linz) Dawson, Sr. He was educated in the Hamilton schools. On June 20, 1959, at the Hickory Flat Chapel, Joseph married Doris J. Harden. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Arneb from April 7, 1954 to April 1, 1958 as a Seabee. Joseph traveled the world, participating in Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. Joseph was a Journeyman Plumber for Laming & Rogers for 40 years retiring in 2000. He enjoyed woodworking and he was an avid reader and gardener. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Joseph is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris J. Dawson; four children, James William (Nancy) Dawson, Denise Carol (Robert) Lipscomb, Joseph Wayne (Rosa) Dawson and John Wesley Dawson; eight grandchildren, Lynsey, Andrew, Elena, Natalie, Jason, Dannielle, Amanda and Braylan; great-granddaughter, Brielle; two sisters, Lois (Darrell) Harper and Ruth (Bryan) Lance; brother, Butch (Carol) Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Wade Dawson; three sisters, Janet (Howard) Edwards, Joelyne (Ivan) Richardson and Nancy Hicks; and one brother, Earl (Marleen) Dawson. Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton, at 11am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, with Rev. Joseph W. Dawson and Rev. Kim Katterheinrich officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Flat Cemetery. Gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.
