We are sad to announce that our brother Vincent (Vince) Blanchard Jennex, age 81, died July 1, 2019, at Northwood Halifax Campus, where he was living since February 5, 2019. He had been in failing health over the past year.
Vince is survived by his siblings Murray Jennex, Iola Heisler, Doris Wells (Wayne); two nieces Sherida Mullins (Brian), Tara Morand (Patrick); two great nieces Shannon Mullins, Gillian Morand. He was predeceased by sister-in-law Lorraine Jennex and brother-in-law Bernard Heisler.
Vince was born in Dartmouth, NS, on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1938, second child and younger son of Lemuel and Margaret (Day) Jennex. He moved to North End Halifax, age 10, and lived in the family home for 70 years.
Vince retired from Maritime Telegraph & Telephone Company Limited (MT&T) with 30 years & 1 month of faithful service as Methods Analyst with Accounting Operations in Halifax. During his distinguished career, Vince held 14 positions with MT&T including Accounting Assistant, Supervisor Corporate Accounts and Paying Systems and Payroll Supervisor. He was the third employee with MT&T to acquire the Registered Industrial and Cost Accountant (RIA) designation via Dalhousie University. He and his brother Murray received their RIA’s at the same time. That’s not all. Vince’s “questioning manner and independent thinking led to significant changes and improvements in the company’s systems and procedures”. Vince was the Project Leader responsible for the successful implementation of MT&T’s payroll system. He was also responsible for developing the budgeting and forecasting function in General Accounting.
Many rewarding years were spent and lasting friendships formed coaching in little league baseball on Fort Needham and minor hockey (24 years) at the Civic Arena. Many young people benefited from Vince’s sincere interest in them. He loved treating kids to see hockey games in Montreal. In retirement, Vince travelled to numerous European destinations, spent winters in Florida, socialized with family/friends.
He was a lover of music and was known for his top-of-the-line sound systems. Vince will be remembered as someone who genuinely liked people and was generally liked by everyone in turn. He strived to treat others fairly. (What he didn’t like particularly were carrots! LOL) A favourite memory will be Vince’s hearty laugh.
His family sincerely thank long-time friends, Sonny Mills & wife and Richard Newman, for their many kindnesses to Vince. As in life, in death Vince will bequeath to the organizations closest to his heart: Salvation Army, Canada; IWK Foundation; Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (for the visually impaired).
A private, family good-bye will take place with Vince’s ashes interred with his parents at Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. Rest in peace, dear brother.
