He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Martha Marie (Weir) and their children, Amy (Robert Hill, Mississauga); Carole (Charlie Macdonald, Halifax); Judy (Robert Thibeau, Halifax); Linda (Howard Archibald, Irish Mountain, NS); Don, Eganville, ON (Michelle); daughter-in-law Karen White-Smith, Halifax, and the joy of his life, his beloved grandchildren, Terri and Katherine Hill, Mississauga, ON; Kate and Patrick Macdonald, Halifax; Sean (Halifax) and Ryan (London, UK) Smith; and Courtney Smith, Middle Musquodoboit. Also, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his sister-in-law Ruby Weir.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and was predeceased by his son John T. Smith, Halifax, his parents Theodore and Amy E. (Jennex), and his siblings Helen MacAskill; Marjorie Ashe; Marie Hanson; George, Edna, John and Mary.
He was a devoted family man, born in Halifax and lived there for his life. Ted retired after 45 years from Farmers Dairy where he held many positions, starting off as a milkman delivering from a horse and wagon. One of the highlights, even after he retired, was being Santa Claus at the Farmers Employees Children’s Christmas party. He was a member of Keith Lodge No. 17, receiving his 55 year membership pin in 2015. He was a fisherman and avid card player, enjoying many games of crib over the years. A gentle man, he was always ready with a smile, a kind word, and a joke or story for everyone.
The family would like to thank Dr. Colin MacWilliam and the staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their care and the staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care for the excellent care and friendship they gave Dad over the past two years. Visitation will be 2-4,6-8 pm Monday September 19,2016 in Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax. Where funeral service will be 2 pm Tuesday September 20, 2016. Martha Martin officiating.
