Stephen was born December 27, 1949 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Sidney and Eva (Walker) Dow. Survived by his wife Mary Ellen (Byrne) Dow and daughter Sarah (Dow) Imrie, her husband Robert and grandsons Andersen and Nolan.
He graduated with a degree in Commerce from Saint Mary’s University and later founded Dow & Duggan Log Homes International with business partner Michael (Frank) Duggan. He and his partner pioneered the log home industry in Nova Scotia and beyond through their innovate and sustainable techniques. Stephen traveled the world, passionately selling the dream, in his honest and genuine way.
Stephen loved hockey. He was a lifelong fan of the Red Wings and avid player well into his sixties. After building the clubhouse at Granite Springs Golf Club, he became a lifetime member and could be found every Saturday morning teeing off for a round followed by a cold Stella. His last round was affectionately played with his two grandsons.
His loving wife and best friend of 33 years remembers Stephen as a strong, courageous man who was always her biggest cheerleader. He supported her goals and love of her horses and their cats Molly, and in particular Lumpy.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Hospice Halifax, 618 Francklyn St., for their excellent care. Donations would be most welcomed in his memory. A private ceremony to celebrate his life will be by invitation only.
In Stephen’s words "always have a dream".
