It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shaun Hall, age 65, of Halifax, on April 27 at Hospice Halifax, following a courageous two-year battle with esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by close family and friends. Shaun is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca Leano (Halifax); his mother, Shirley Hall (Dartmouth); brother, Duane (Mary MacLean), Mineville; and brother, Stacy (Arni Mihoiluk) Courtenay, BC; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Stewart Hall. Shaun worked as a Stationary Engineer at Saint Mary’s University, Camp Hill Hospital, and DND for 38 years before retiring in 2017. He was an active member of Birch Cove Baptist Church where he served in various committees and ministries. Shaun was an accomplished guitar player with an extensive collection of fine instruments, and he very much enjoyed volunteering to sing and play at seniors’ homes throughout the city. He was an avid member and supporter of the What the Folk Society of Halifax for 10 years, and he will be missed by the members of that society. Shaun was a man of varied interests, but he particularly enjoyed camping, swimming, hiking, cooking and traveling. He will most certainly be remembered fondly for his wry and sardonic sense of humour. Shaun received superb support and care from his medical team throughout his illness. Special mention must be made of Dr. W. Morzycki, Dr. M. Rajaraman, Dr. Alison Wallace, the nursing and support staff of ward 6A, Victoria General Hospital, and the amazing staff and volunteers from Palliative Care and Hospice Halifax. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Cancer Research Canada. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 21st, 1:00 PM at Birch Cove Baptist Church, 50 Donaldson Avenue, Halifax. The service will be livestreamed, the link will be available on the funeral home website. The family requests attendees to wear masks.
