Louise Gibbons, age 89 of Halifax passed away October 5th at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born on June 7, 1929 in Glen Martin, PEI, she was the daughter of the late John MacPherson and Marion MacPherson (Martin).
Louise left the island in 1950 for Halifax where she took a business course at Maritime Business College, she worked for Irving Oil. She then moved to Greenland to work for the American Air Force, for 6 months, and after returning to Halifax, held various secretarial positions. She met a Halifax Fire Fighter, got married, and worked part-time so she could spend time raising her family. In 1975 she began working for Atlantic School of Theology and stayed for 17 years before retiring in 1992. She was dedicated to her church, Hope United, formerly of United Memorial. Louise was a very special caring and compassionate person who treated everyone with care, respect and dignity. She always loved to walk. She will be missed and never forgotten.
Predecesed by her husband Wilbur (Gibby) Gibbons, her sister Catherine MacPherson and brothers Angus and Martin.
Survived by her son Richard (Donna) Gibbons, Dartmouth and her daughter Karen Gibbons (Mike Covey), Mount Uniacke, two grandchildren Melissa (Dartmouth) Michael (Ottawa) and five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday October 11 at 10 am followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11 am, all from J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Family burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Feed NS or the CNIB.
Special thanks to all the staff of Garden Court at Parkstone Enhanced Care who work so hard to look after their residents with limited staff. Thank you all for your hard work. Special thanks also to Christine who was a friend and caregiver.
