Ruby M. MacDonald, 99, of Halifax, NS peacefully left her earthly life behind on June 11, 2022 to be with Jesus and begin her new life in her heavenly home, free from all diseases that held her captive for a number of years severely limiting her ability to be active in any capacity. She is free now to walk and talk, and live life to the fullest in the presence of Jesus.
Our dear mother was born in Blandford, NS, April 11, 1923 to Almeda (Zinck) (Gates) Hill and Selvyn Gates.
She was a very active person all her life. Early on she worked at Moirs in Halifax followed by many years as a Nurses Aid at Inglis Street Lodge, Northwood, Saint Vincent’s Guest House and Mount Saint Vincent Mother House. During many of those years she also took care of 30 plus children in her home as well as boarders. For a brief period of time she also worked at the Four Seasons Motel in Dartmouth. Busy as she was she would still make time to canvass for organizations such as The Salvation Army, Heart & Stroke Foundation and Cancer Society, to name a few. For approximately 23 years she volunteered three days a week at the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Queenie Gates; husband, Cyril MacDonald; and son, Robert MacDonald. She is survived by daughters, Juanita Brown of Mississauga, ON; Sheila MacDonald of Halifax, NS; sons, Douglas (Connie) MacDonald of Dartmouth, NS; Ken (Beth) MacDonald of Dartmouth, NS; daughter-in-law, Vivian MacDonald as well as 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
